Summer Guide 2022: Golf Courses

Try your hand at hitting a tiny ball into a far away hole with a stick.

Until recently, golf was a rich white guys' sport. But that's changing, with many courses developing accessible youth programs, hosting affordable evens, and making what was once a private club a public one.

Golf isn't for everyone. In fact, one local group would rather have a public sex forest (they make a good argument, honestly). But if you've ever been golf-curious, now's a great time to explore what local courses have to offer.

Baker National Golf Course and Driving Range

This 210-acre area features a driving range, 9-hole executive course, and 18-hole national championship course. Birnamwood Public Golf Course

Bluff Creek Golf Course

A 6,650 yard 18-hole course and driving range. 1025 Creekwood St., Chaska; 952-445-5685; bluffcreek.com.

Braemar Golf Course and Dome

Featuring an 18-hole championship course, an academy 9-hole, par-3 course, a pro shop, driving range, practice putting green, and indoor golf dome. 6364 John Harris Dr., Edina, 952-903-5750; braemargolf.com.

Brightwood Hills Golf Course

A 1,538 yard, par-30 executive course. 1975 Silver Lake Rd., New Brighton; 651-638-2150; ci.new-brighton.mn.us.

Brookland Golf Park

A 20-acre executive course. 8232 Regent Ave. N., Brooklyn Park; 763-488-6497; brooklandgolfpark.org.

Brookview Golf Course and Recreation Area

There’s an 18-hole regulation course here as well as a 9-hole par 3, a driving range and teaching area, lawn bowling, and a golf shop. 200 Brookview Pkwy. (Hwy. 55 and Winnetka Ave.), Golden Valley; 763-512-2300; brookviewgolf.com.

Bunker Hills Golf Course

Castlewood Golf Course

A 9-hole, par-36 regulation course. 7050 Scandia Trail (3 miles east of I-35 on Hwy. 97), Forest Lake; 651-464-6233; castlewood.golf.

Cedarholm Golf Course

Featuring 9-hole, par-3 public course and pro shop. 2323 Hamline Ave. N., Roseville, 651-633-8337; ci.roseville.mn.us.

Cleary Lake Golf Course 

This 9-hole course also boasts a driving range. Off 185th St. on Cty. Rd. 27, Prior Lake, 763-694-7777; threeriversparks.org.

Columbia Golf Club

This 18-hole public course measures 6,371 yards, and features a driving range and clubhouse. 3300 Central Ave. NE, Minneapolis; 612-230-6520.; minneapolisparks.org/golf.

Como Golf Course

This 18-hole, par-70 public golf course is right by Como Zoo, and boasts a practice green and a Cozy’s Pub. 1431 N. Lexington Pkwy., St. Paul; 651-488-9673; golfstpaul.org.

Dahlgreen Golf Club

This 18-hole course also has a driving range, club house, and pro shop. 6940 Dahlgren Rd. (Cty. Rd. 43 and Dalgren Rd.), Chaska; 952-448-7463; dahlgreen.com.

Daytona Golf Club

Dwan Golf Club

Eagle Lake Regional Park

This youth-oriented course boasts a 9-hole, par-31 Eagle Course; nine-hole, lighted, par 27 pitch-and-putt Birdie Course; a 40-station, lighted, natural-turf practice range; and practice/lesson areas. 11000 Cty. Rd. 10, Plymouth, 763-694-7695; threeriversparks.org.

Eagle Valley Golf Club

This 18-hole par -2 municipal golf course is laid out over 225 acres, with a driving range and a clubhouse. 2600 Double Eagle Ln., Woodbury; 651-714-3750; eaglevalleygc.com.

Edinburgh USA Golf Course and Country Club

This 18-hole public course includes practice facilities, a restaurant, pro shop, and a large clubhouse, and, according to its website, this is a “thinking person’s course.” 8700 Edinbrook Crossing, Brooklyn Park; 763-315-8550; edinburgh usa.org.

Fort Snelling Golf Club

This 49-acre, 9-hole, par-35 course features a practice range and disc golf. 5701 Leavenworth Ave., St. Paul; 612-430-6523; minneapolisparks.org/golf.

Francis A. Gross National Golf Club

Enjoy a 150-acre, 18-hole course with a driving range and clubhouse. 2201 St. Anthony Blvd., Minneapolis, 612-430-6523; minneapolisparks.org/golf.

Gem Lake Hills Golf Course

Two 9-hole courses, featuring a par 3 course and an executive par 30 course. 4039 Scheuneman Rd., White Bear Lake; 651-429-8715; gemlakehillsgolf.com.

Glen Lake Golf and Practice Center

This casual spot has a 9-hole recreational course and practice center. 14350 Cty. Rd. 62, Minnetonka, 763-694-7824; threeriversparks.org.

Goodrich Golf Course

This 18-hole, par-70 course features lots of water features, and is set in the rolling hills of Maplewood. 1820 N. Van Dyke St., Maplewood; 651-748-2525; parks.co.ramsey.mn.us.

Hiawatha Golf Club

This 140-acre, 18-hole, par-73 course is in the heart of south Minneapolis, running alongside Lake Hiawatha. There’s also a pro-shop and a driving range. 4553 Longfellow Ave. S., Minneapolis; 612-230-6525; minneapolisparks.org/golf.

Highland National Golf Range

This 18-hole, par-72 municipal course has a Snoopy shaped bunker on the 15th hole dedicated to Charles Schulz, who learned to play golf here. Wholesome! The Highland Park nine-hole golf course is right across the street. 1403 Montreal Ave., St. Paul, 651-695-3774; golfstpaul.org.

Hyland Greens Golf Course

The driving range has a 30,000-square-foot bentgrass tee, a short-game area with a bunker, and a practice putting green as well as a 9-hole, par-3 course for all skill levels. 10100 Normandale Blvd., Bloomington; 763-694-1180; threeriversparks.org.

Inver Wood Golf Course

Island Lake Golf and Training Center

This spot has a 9-hole course, clubhouse, training facilities, and driving range. 1000 Red Fox Rd., Shoreview; 651-787-0383; islandlakegolf.com.

The Loop at Chaska

Formerly known as Chaska Par 30 Golf Course, this renovated space features a 9-hole, par 30 course designed with disability accessibility in mind. 1207 Hazeltine Blvd., Chaska; 952-448-7454; chaskatowncourse.com/chaska-par-30.

Majestic Oaks Golf Club

Manitou Ridge Golf Course

The Meadows at Mystic Lake Golf Course

Meadowbrook Golf Club

This 18-hole championship course is approaching 100 years. There’s also a full food and beverage service and a golf shop. 201 Meadowbrook Rd., Hopkins; 612-230-6526; minneapolisparks.org/golf.

Mendota Heights Par 3 Golf Course

North Oaks Golf Club

Featuring an 18-hole course with practice range and clubhouse. 54 E. Oaks Rd., North Oaks; 651-484-8585; northoaksgolfclub.com.

Parkers Lake Golf Center

Phalen Golf Course

River Oaks Municipal Golf Course

Rush Creek Golf Club

Southern Hills Golf Club

Stonebrooke Golf Course

There’s an 18-hole championship course, 9-hole par-30 course, driving range, large clubhouse, and extensive amenities. 2693 S. County Rd. 79, Shakopee; 952-496-3171; stonebrooke.com.

Sundance Golf Banquet Bowl

Theodore Wirth Golf Club

Valleywood Golf Course and Park
