Here's every movie you can see in local theaters this week.

I'm no box-office watcher (they don't give me any of the money, what do I care?) but I am very curious to see how well a movie about Elvis does nearly a half-century after his (supposed) death. (Bet we'll at least get some good memes!) But not as curious as I am to finally see Memoria, the latest Apichatpong Weerasethakul film. There are still tickets for this weekend's exclusive screenings at the Walker. What's a matter? Can't you handle a little slow Thai cinema, you cowards? "Waah, I am a giant baby, the pacing is too meditative, the narrative is non-linear, there are no dinosaurs, waaaaaaah."

Opening This Week

The Black Phone
Kinda clever, way too "remember the '70s?," ultimately sorta "ehhh, whatever" shocker about an abducted kid who's coached on how to escape by the ghosts of his captor's former victims. Ethan Hawke has some creepy fun as The Grabber. Full disclosure: Ethan wanted to buy my '75 Dodge Dart when I went away to college. I should've sold it to him cause the transmission crapped out a year later.

Elvis
A cynical observer might suspect that this is a Hail Mary from Elvis Presley Enterprises to juice the King’s catalog with their own Bohemian Rhapsody before his last living fan dies.
