William D. Green

William D. Green is professor emeritus at Augsburg University in Minneapolis. His books include A Peculiar Imbalance: The Fall and Rise of Racial Equality in Minnesota, 1837–1869; Degrees of Freedom: The Origins of Civil Rights in Minnesota, 1865–1912; The Children of Lincoln: White Paternalism and the Limits of Black Opportunity in Minnesota, 1860–1876; and Nellie Francis: Fighting for Racial Justice and Women’s Equality in Minnesota, all published by the University of Minnesota Press. He has twice won the Hognander Minnesota History Award.
